At The RoseWater, Painted At The King Edward Hotel

I was hired by Brent, who was the best man of the wedding and the guy that came up with the idea, to bodypaint  duplicate tuxedos  on each one of the groomsmen, which had to stay hidden underneath their actual tuxedos for the purpose of the gimmick that was in store for the wedding. I arrived at Toronto’s five star hotel The King Edward, at five-thirty AM in the morning of the wedding to begin work at six AM. The work space was upstairs in the hotel in a huge, well stocked, private suite that was a very comfy place to work. Seven non-stop work hours later I finished ten minutes before the wedding. This video was made by the groomsmen, but mostly by Sven. Enjoy.

How long have you been bodypainting?

I have been getting paid by people to do art onto things since I was in High School, which was over twenty years ago now. About ten years ago I returned to Canada after traveling and living overseas for many years.  After I had settled in, I went out and did some some legwork to get some business in and shortly thereafter I began to get the occasional calls for work, which included some facepainting or some bodypainting, but it was not very often. At that time I did not know anything about those artforms compared to what I know now so I could not offer the same quality and style and speed that I can now.  As time passed though I began to get more airbrushed tattooing jobs for parties and events more and more often, which is kinda like bodypainting in a sense, and so it was via my learning process of airbrushing tattoos that I learned how to paint onto a moving person.

Around 2007, I was working for an online magazine on the side and one day my job was to interview XXX legend Ron Jeremy at a huge convention show happening in Toronto called the Everything to do with sex show. At some point during the show I was walking by the bodypainting booth and I saw that they were airbrushing so I stopped by and began chatting the booth owner up. We got along quite well and to my utter surprise the booth owner invited me to come to the next show and do airbrushed tattooing in the booth alongside the crew. This was an offer which I immediately and happily accepted; it was a foot in the door and a golden opportunity and I grabbed it.

I began airbrushing tattoos at the Everything to do with sex shows in different cities and by pure osmosis by being there I learned how bodypainting was done and about the materials used. Eventually I began bodypainting  models and patrons of the show and began to get a lot of practice and experiment time in. It wasn’t long after beginning bodypainting and putting some ads out that I began to get calls from companies such as Converse Shoes for example, who wanted bodypainted models or performers for their events. One job led to another and before I knew it I was bodypainting  more than anything else and loving it and so here I am.

A: The makeup / paint dries almost instantly.

Q:Is the paint safe?

A: Only safe FDA approved, hypo-allergenic make-up is used to body paint with.

Q:How do I remove the paint?

A: In most cases the paint removes easily with soap and water.

A: The answer to that is based upon the intricacy and size and amount of colors that there are in the design. It takes a 40 minutes to render  a corset, over an hour to render faux jeans, almost two hours to render a full body animal, while other images can take up to six hours.

Mermaids, Flames, Fire & Ice, Animal Prints (Leopard, Tiger, Zebra, etc), Fairies, Abstract Art Designs, Painted on Clothes (Lingerie,  Corsets, Swimwear, Jeans, Suits), Ocean & Aquatic Designs, Botanical  Designs (Flowers, Roses, Hibiscus Flowers), Tropical Sunsets, Tribal  Designs… the list goes on and on.

My rates vary per project as many factors go into a quote. What I need to know from you before I can give you a quote is:

1. *The amount of models being painted?
2. *The location of the project?
3. *What the body painting is being used for?
4. *How much of the body is being painted?
5. *The simplicity/detail of the body painting?
6. *What is the day of your event/project?
7. *What time does the event start?
8. *What time do you need me to start?
9. *What time does my services end?
10. *Do you want me to paint models or guests at the event?
11. *What time do you need the body painting on the models to be completed by?
12. *How much of the model(s) do you want painted? Chest area only, half body, or full body?
13. *What are the models being painted for (convention promotion, human billboard, magazine cover, advertisement, sushi display, photoshoot, wedding, pre-natal project, party, stage show, fashion show, dancers, bachelorette party, commercial, or tv project, movie production, website content?)
14. *Are there any specific colors that you want the models to be painted in?
15. *Do you need a logo painted on the model(s)?
16. *Do you have the models lined up or do you need me to line up models?
17. *Do you have your own photographer/video-grapher?
