Britney Spears’s Hebrew Lettering Tattoo

britney Spears Hebrew tattooBritney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is a Grammy-winning American pop singer, best known for her studio albums, music videos, and pop songs such as “…Baby One More Time” and “Toxic.” In 2004, Britney Spears had three Hebrew letters “???”, tattooed into the back of her neck. This started an immediate gossip frenzy with claims that yet another celebrity got an incorrect lettering tattoo, reminiscent of David Beckham’s tattoo debacle, because “???” is in fact not a Hebrew word . Many people, including native Hebrew speakers, believed the tattoo to be unintelligible gibberish.

Critics and big mouthes were silented quickly when word broke that the Hebrew letters was not meant to be a word per se, but rather spelled one of legendary 72 names of God that is listed in the Kabbalah, (Jewish mysticism) and that this name was connotative of healing and conciousness. She got it because allegedly it was an act of devotion to Kabbalah.

But after four years, two marriages, a couple of children, and leaving her new found faith in Kabbalah behind, in 2008, Britney Spears had the Hebrew characters removed from her neck without any fanfare or announcements
